A lovely sunny day during the Platinum Jubilee weekend saw the garden I've designed and built being formally opened. Parish councillors gathered along with local residents for the 'cutting of the ribbon' on the Jubilee Garden sign. It was a lovely turn out and I can't tell you how relieved I was to see some of the plants in flower. The planting was designed for year round interest but the Achillea 'Moon Dust' and Salvia 'Purple Rain' gave an indication of the colours to come. I deliberately didn't over-plant, a wasteful process... the plants will take a few years to fill out to their mature size and cover all the soil but will be happier for it. The grasses are quite tiny at the moment, but several will be 1m tall and the flower stems on the tallest will sway in the breeze at 2m. I can't wait to see them mature.
I've been told personally by a number of councillors that they loved the design from the very beginning and are delighted with the new garden. It certainly makes the journey to the recreation ground much prettier. I couldn't be happier!
